Goals help you bridge the gap from where you are now to where you want to be. If you want to hit a target, you have to know what that target is in the first place!

The first step in creating a powerful goal is to decide what it is you truly want and WHY. Dig deep for WHY having that is important to you.

Start now by giving yourself some quiet time and allowing yourself to dream. Begin by thinking of what’s most important to you in your life and what you are truly grateful for.

To ensure maximum success with your goals and what you want to create or accomplish, align your goals with the following criteria:

Match Your Core Values

What are your core values? Sometimes they change in different stages of life. What is it in life that you value the most?

The more you’re able to align your goals with what you value most, the more it will mean to you and the more perseverance you will have to achieve it.

Be Able to Envision the Goal

Practice VISUALIZING what you would like to create as if it already happened. If you can’t see the end result, it will be very difficult to believe it can happen and move forward toward achieving the goal. Create a visual and place it somewhere you will see it every day.

The more you’re able to visualize your desired results, the more your brain will find ways to make it happen.

Align Your Thoughts with Your Goal

Our thoughts create our results in our lives. Notice your thoughts around your dreams and goals. Are your thoughts coming from inspiration and empowerment or doubt and disbelief? Most likely all of the above, and that’s ok. Become hyper-aware of the thoughts that pop up around your goals and practice shifting to more empowering thoughts. We will continue to work on this!

Align your Habits with Your Goal

We are an accumulation of our daily micro-habits. Be extra mindful of your habits. Are they moving your closer to or further from your goals?

How can you shift or upgrade that micro-habit to push you closer towards achieving your goal?

Be 100% Responsible & Accountable

While goals that rely on other people aren’t impossible, they are harder to achieve. Any goal that you control 100%, is a goal that you can reach. Be mindful of fear getting in your way or blaming fate for your failures. Self-limiting beliefs can get in your way on this one. Be realistic about whether you do have control or not and give yourself more credit.

For example, if you think you do not have control over your financial future because of your circumstances or “that’s just how it is,” you are mistaken. Be accountable for your results and practice shifting your thoughts and habits. It will shift your outcome.

If your goal is to have your spouse treat you more kindly so you can feel happier, the only part you have control over is YOUR own behavior and what YOU are focusing your attention on in the relationship. YOU are the ONLY one responsible for your happiness. So adjust your goal to change the way YOU treat your spouse and show up in your relationship, (this will likely result in their behavior adjusting too, but that isn’t in your control).

Be as Specific as Possible

If your goal is vague, you will loose sight of your goal. Every goal you make needs to be very specific in nature. If you really want to be sure to reach the goal, you have to know when you’ve reached it. Instead of saying “I want to lose weight,” state “My goal is to lose 20 pounds in 4 months.”

Be Actionable

To achieve any goal, there have to be action steps that you can take to get there. Brainstorm a list of milestones that will lead you in the direction of your goals. These are smaller action steps that you can achieve.

Declare not only what, but when and how you’ll accomplish the steps and what you’ll do to celebrate them.

Be Timely

Every goal is more obtainable when it has a reasonable time frame, otherwise it becomes easy to procrastinate. Set time frames on your goals and milestones. You can adjust your time to be more realistic, but stay accountable to your commitments to yourself!

Momentum is key, you can always adjust your sails as you gain clarity in the journey. Just keep sailing towards your dreams…!
